Lanthanum bonds with dissolved phosphate and precipitates, then the lanthanum phosphate can be exported from skimming and filter socks/wool. Maintaining a low and stable phosphate level between 0.02 0.1 ppm is vital for coral tissue growth as zero phosphates can cause coral bleaching. Overdosing may cause a white residue on the glass.
