Zeolites are widely used as adsorbents or ion-exchange media in aquariums, drinking water, groundwater and wastewater treatments. Natural Australian Zeolites are used to remove ammonium ions and metal contaminants such as iron, manganese, calcium, and heavy metals (e.g., arsenic, lead, copper, mercury, silver, chromium, zinc, cadmium).

For freshwater use only.

Uniqueness of Australian Red Zeolite

The absorption characteristics of AquaNATURAL Zeolites are what makes it a marvellous mineral. Its porous honeycomb three-dimensional matrix is mainly occupied by water and cation molecules. Inside their structure Zeolites can gain and lose water reversibly. It can exchange cations, the most important being ammonium ion and they do this without change to its physical structure. Heavy metal ions such as lead (Pb), mercury (Hg) and cadmium (Cd) are effectively not exchangeable and are bound to the Zeolite.

Our Zeolite deposit is of carboniferous age and dates to 300-330 million years old and is one of the oldest commercial deposits in the world.

Not all Zeolites are created equal or the same

Our Zeolites are very hard and are rated greater than 5 on the Moh scale for hardness. Other deposits especially in Europe and China are much younger and softer. Having harder Zeolites is beneficial for applications in water and air filtration plus in soil applications such as aquascaping or when you do not want the Zeolites to breakdown.

Mineralogy of Zeolites

Zeolites are a group of naturally occurring aluminosilicate minerals. There are some 46 different Zeolites and only four of them have the absorption characteristics that render them of commercial value. In order, these are Clinoptilolite, Mordenite, Chabazite and Phillipsite with ours containing the best of these two being 85% Clinoptilolite and 15% Mordenite.

DIRECTIONS *NOT FOR SALT WATER USE*

1) Rinse before use to remove fine particles.

2) Fill your media bag/sock of choice or place loose in your filter.

3) It is recommended to be positioned between mechanical filtration media (eg. foam) and rings or biological media in the filter.

4) Zeolites will become saturated by ammonia over time and at that point should be removed and replaced with new Zeolites media.
