Chalice Corals are a large polyp stony (LPS) coral. They are disc like and generally round in shape, and the surface is textured with various bumps. Chalice corals will slowly expand outward and encrust over other rocks or glass. They prefer low to moderate lighting levels and medium flow. They are moderate in difficulty to keep, but do need proper amounts of calcium and alkalinity to thrive. As these elements are absorbed, the skeletal base grows. They are semi-aggressive with their ability to sting other corals, and should spaced apart from different corals. They feed at night by extending sweeper tentacles. They get most of their nutrition through photosynthesis, but can benefit by being fed zooplankton and Arcti-pods.
